I cannot help myself... Since 1984... strike that since 1976, I've been a tortured, tormented, but patient Seahawks fan. Ask anyone I know...

I'm hopeful for a run in the playoffs, at least we get one game at home for sure, and it will be louder than loud for that game and hopefully for all of the games through the playoffs! Go 12th Man and Go Seahawks!

The new service not only reduces the number of clicks, it lets subscribers personalize their phone by allowing them to put their most important information on the phone's home page. Ryan says wireless operators have traditionally structured the wireless Internet with menus and that those menus are self-limiting. "I can only put in six or seven sports content providers and any more than that gets arduous," Ryan says.
Instead, the new Media Net service will allow consumers to develop their own deck. "We are handling over control to the user,” Ryan says. “It's not our decision to limit who is on the top deck. The individual can construct the services as they like.”
This revamped strategy is great news for content providers. Game publishers or content aggregators that have content with a niche appeal rather than the ability to draw a large number of users are now able to offer their content to the end-user and not worry about whether they can secure top-deck placement. “Content providers can offer more specialized content,” Ryan says. “As long as it's good content that is relevant and can find an audience.”

You have to go and construct content? When was the last time you heard anyone that is a wireless user ask to construct something? Hard-core user will spend the time… Casual Users want to be guided. You had better offer both metaphors, or you are going to lose your casual base all together, and I’m betting that is a significant number of u$er$. What you should do is offer them solutions to questions they have everyday… Deliver it as content they can browse and customize your choices if they want to, hell if you are so worried about who get’s top placement allow them to choose a profile and then select the content you think fits them… You must have that data… right?

"Customers are paying $2 for a shortened version of a song for a ringtone," Lauer told Reuters. "Will they pay the same for a full song, having the convenience of having it on (a cellphone)? I think they will."

Ring tones are a convenience that consumers cannot match by using a simple tool like a Windows Media Player or ITunes.

Full track downloads can be copied from your CDs legally, quickly and easily using those tools. Why would I pay $2.00 for a full track again? Unless the catalog has a ton of music that consumers cannot find on CD (because most folks have all of the full tracks they want on CD) no one will regularly buy music content from these services.

Additionally, ring tones are a personally identifiable piece of content. (Note the singular) Consumers buy them to show others part of their personal style. They represent the individual or the people calling that individual. In addition the ring tones are difficult for most people to get on many phones.

Full track downloads are private items that are listened to with headphones and are not used as ring tones as the "hook" is usually 1/3 to 1/2 the way into most songs. These songs will not be played publicly unless done by using an adapter to play the songs through a car stereo. PC playback is probably already done via ripped tracks or purchases already done via other online music services or subscription services.

In addition, the ability to browse this content is a pain on a phone. If the catalog is huge, the listing is ridiculous to browse through or worse yet search for. T9 input is great but many searches are tedious at best.

But what do i know... :-)
